Although the current Engaged Learning Program, which launched in 2017, already requires students to participate in meaningful co-curricular experiences in order to graduate, the new measures double down on those experiences most likely to lead to career success. Rider has set a new target that 95% of all students, beginning with the Class of 2025, will participate in enriched career preparation experiences such as internships, fieldwork and co-ops across all disciplines, including the arts, sciences, business and more. The changes are designed to bolster the university’s already strong record of preparing students for successful careers, according to the statement. After careful analysis, we determined that providing more immediate clarity to the actual final cost of a Rider education would serve prospective students, the institution and the state of New Jersey better.”Īlong with changes to tuition, Rider is also announcing adjustments to its signature Engaged Learning Program. “The new tuition rate also aims to keep more New Jersey students from leaving the state to attend public or private institutions at out-of-state tuition rates that are similar. “While we’re very proud of our ongoing commitment to providing financial aid, which will not change, the current model creates a significant hurdle for students and families who believe the sticker price immediately puts a Rider education financially out of reach,” Vice President of Enrollment Management Drew Aromando said in the statement. Like many universities, Rider currently follows a complex pricing model that provides substantial discounts through scholarships and financial aid. “Because a college education remains one of the most important investments individuals can make in their lifetimes, our goal is to help lift any barrier that prevents a student from thriving at Rider University, including those who assume a private education is out of reach based solely on the sticker price.” “These new measures continue our bold action to provide an exceptional educational value for our students,” Rider President Gregory G. For admission, students must submit letters of recommendation, work experience letters, statements of purpose, school or college transcripts, and valid passports and visas. The new initiative, called Lifting Barriers, is designed to help students break through significant obstacles they face in obtaining a college education and a successful career, including understanding the true cost of college and the ability to adapt, both socially and academically, in a college environment and beyond, according to information provided by Rider on Sept. ![]() ![]() You can see a basic example iRule below, this is what iRules look like, and we will explore the different parts of an iRule in far more depth in coming parts of this series. At the end of the day iRules is a network aware, customized language with which a user can add business and application logic to their deployment at the network layer. As such, rather than forcing them to submit requests for us to modify our core architecture every time they wanted to be able to use their F5 devices in a manner that slightly diverged from the collection of check boxes and drop downs available in the standard UI, we offered them iRules, and thereby a way to do what they need, when they need it. We recognized early on the need for users to be able to configure their systems to interact with network traffic in many ways that either we haven’t thought of, or are simply corner cases and/or in the minority of traffic being dealt with by our users. The idea behind iRules is to make the BIG-IP nearly infinitely flexible. IRules can route, re-route, redirect, inspect, modify, delay, discard or reject, log or … do just about anything else with network traffic passing through a BIG-IP. Whether you’re looking to do some form of custom persistence or rate limiting that isn’t currently available within the product’s built-in options, or looking to completely customize the user experience by granularly controlling the flow or even the contents of a given session/packet(s), that’s what iRules was built for. The idea is pretty straightforward iRules gives you the capability to write simple, network aware pieces of code that will influence your network traffic in a variety of ways. That’s pretty vague, though, so let’s try and define a bit more about what actually occurs within an iRule. To give a general introduction to iRules as a technology we’ll try to answer the following questions:Īn iRule, in its most simple terminology, is a script that executes against network traffic passing through an F5 device. Following a similar style as the first two introduction articles in this series, we’ll outline a few topics to cover, and then delve into them. Don't worry, we'll wait!īack for more? Great! Now that everyone is equally equipped, let’s dig in a bit to the meat of the topic at hand: iRules. If you’re new to F5, new to programming, new to both, or just looking for a refresher on some very rudimentary concepts and terminology, I recommend checking out the first two articles in this series so that we’re all on the same page as we wade into iRules proper. ![]() That may sound odd, but there has been some important foundational work to do before diving too deep into the technology behind iRules themselves. That's the beauty of the set of command tools you get through IrfanView you can process and manipulate images on your PC much faster and more efficiently than would ever be possible using the old point and click approach.Welcome to the third installment of this series, wherein we will, for the first time, actually discuss iRules at length. And check out was equally as smooth as check in. But never had a problem with pool chairs. My wife and I stayed three nights, which seemed the ideal amount of time, and we would definitely go back. We went stand-up paddle boarding, which is a fun way to enjoy the water right off the hotel. A lovely hour long ride out to the reef and high quality snorkeling. Sunset cruise was lovely and the food was our dinner that night, which was plenty for my wife I added a pizza at the beach bar later that night. Ready by 6:45 am when I arrived and stocked with everything you could need. Coffee station (another pet peeve of mine since many hotels have none or do it poorly) was excellent. Pool area had plenty of seating with enough sun vs shade options. Toilet room had an exhaust fan as it should - a pet peeve of mine which many hotels lack. Bed was comfortable, view was beautiful, outdoor chairs were my serene coffee spot every morning. The grounds are immaculate, very well maintained. We pulled our car in, an attendant met us, and radioed to the front desk with our names. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely consider The Bungalows for future vacations. He made sure everyone was taken care of while still taking time to make personal connections with my wife and I and other guests. Everyone we encountered were extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. The Staff – Last, but certainly not least, is a big thank you to all employees at The Bungalows for making our anniversary trip as relaxing and opulent as we hoped it would be. Breakfast was excellent every morning at Fish Tales. We mainly opted for poolside snacks at lunchtime. Food & Drink – All three restaurants had delicious options for dinner. The Zen Pool is great for resting or reading. Activities – We booked a couples massage, did a snorkeling trip and enjoyed relaxing at both pools. Excellent views from the porch, comfortable bed, and clean room and shower. Accommodations – We splurged and stayed at one of the waterfront bungalows. You know you’re in for something special as soon as you arrive. We usually do something, but this year we wanted to step it up a bit. The outdoor shower and tub were awesome too. And rooms were cleaned daily with nightly turn down service with a treat. ![]() At first, I thought this hotel was a bit over priced but now I know they are putting the money to use with great staff/service, food options and entertainment. Plus we started our night with cocktails at the Hemingway which were great. And they were very generous with the seafood - unlimited crab, lobster, shrimp and oysters in addition to main staples like beef, chicken, salads, etc. The Labor Day party on Sunday was exceptional!. Those are available though for the more active bunch. ![]() It's from 10am to 2pm and it's worth the $150 pp with food provided (AM snacks and lunch) in addition to an open wine, beer and champagne bar with service. We went on the hotel's Tiki Thai sand bar excursion and had a lot of fun!. Even if you don't stay ocean front - the property offers many places to relax and enjoy the water including lounge chairs, hammocks, Adirondack chairs and shaded cabanas. I highly recommend staying Ocean front to enjoy your coffee with a view. Not a lot to do to turn this place into a special spot with better management but even still $1,650 a night is a bit much in our opinion even if it were upgraded. The place has real potential if they had excellent food to match their exorbitant prices and it really needs a beach it is an oceanside resort after all. If that meat was prime it was ten years old or they are getting lied to by their meat supplier a ribeye that was 1/2" thick that was so chewy we did not eat our $300 upgraded meal. The experience at the desk, the horrible meal at Bogies really tarnished our stay and we shall not return. However the food was not even average and do not fall for the $300 upgrade to eat at their "fine dining" Bogies which we did. 95% of the people who work there are super nice it is fun but overpriced we stayed in the 500 row farthest away from everything and our bill as $3,452.00 and if the food was good and they had a nice beach I guess would be ok. We arrived at 2:45 and were told by a very rude lady at the reception desk who should be fired if anyone from the Bungalows management reads the reviews. ![]() Rachel’s aptitude for mahjong is a silent riposte to Eleanor. Here’s Chu and Lim’s anatomy of the scene. “She’s walking away with an understanding of how unique her dual culture is.” “When Rachel walks away from the table, she is now fully who she’s supposed to be, and she doesn’t need Eleanor’s approval, she doesn’t need that ring. Unbeknownst to Rachel until later, this sacrifice is enough to change Eleanor’s mind about her – but in the moment, it doesn’t matter. And when Nick eventually marries someone Eleanor deems worthy, she says with quiet intensity, “it will be because of me. A poor, raised-by-a-single-mother, low class, immigrant nobody.” With that devastating kicker, she walks away from the table, revealing that she had a winning hand all along and chose not to play it. Rachel is not bluffing she’s truly prepared to walk away from this relationship, though the pain it causes her is clear. She’s making a sacrifice, and in that way showing that Eleanor’s assumptions about her couldn’t be further from the truth” The card sort of represents Nick – he’s proposed to her, and she could take him and win, but she’s not going to do that. “The game becomes an analogy for their struggle and their conflict over Nick. “Rachel holds a card that both she and Eleanor need to win, and she discards it,” Lim explains. Though Chu and co-screenwriter Adele Lim know that Western viewers may not understand the specifics of what goes on in the game, the larger meaning is clear. But don’t worry, I turned him down.” Literally and figuratively, she holds the winning card – and chooses not to play it for Nick’s sake, thus skewering Eleanor’s assumption that all Americans think about is their own happiness. He said he’d walk away from his family and you for good. The beats of the game mirror the real-life conflict: as Rachel picks up the tile that both she and Eleanor need in order to win, she reveals: “Nick proposed to me yesterday. It’s also revealed during the course of the scene that Rachel has turned down Nick’s proposal, despite loving him desperately, because she doesn’t want to cause a rift between him and his family. “The mahjong scene is the moment when the dragon finally comes out.”ĭuring the game, Rachel has a winning hand but deliberately does not play it, instead sacrificing a crucial tile to allow Eleanor to win instead. “The film is really Rachel’s journey of going to Asia and finding the dragon within, and becoming stronger and more self-assured in her own identity,” Chu continues. Instead, it’s about Rachel reconciling the two sides of her own cultural identity as an Asian-American woman: an identity which has been harshly judged by Eleanor throughout the film. “The movie should be able to end after the mahjong scene, because it’s not about getting the guy,” Chu says. It’s a mesmerizing set piece that does not appear in Kevin Kwan’s book, but which director Jon M Chu calls the most important in the movie. But the true ending of Rachel’s story comes a couple of scenes earlier, as she confronts Nick’s fearsome mother Eleanor (an impeccably restrained Michelle Yeoh) over a game of mahjong. Having turned down her boyfriend’s proposal to avoid causing a rift in his tight-knit Singaporean family, Rachel (Constance Wu) is leaving on a jet plane, only for Nick (Henry Golding) to chase her all the way through the airport and get down on one knee.
